There’s one important thing you need to know before you go to 42: if you eat fish and meat, you’ve got to order the cod cheeks in chorizo cream. It’s their star dish, served with hunks of bread for dipping into the cream – but by no means is it the only thing this quirky little restaurant has to offer.
The colourful painted walls come in contrast to the surrounding part of King St, providing an oasis in a sea of grey. Its menu is varied and includes a number of influences that bring us smokey tapenade, tender ribs, and gooey baked camembert, alongside a cocktail menu of the classics.
Although the restaurant provides an intimate setting for evening meals, the lunch deal they’ve had lately is an excellent offer, with two tapas dishes and a glass of wine, beer, or soft drink for just £15. We found that four dishes between two was perfect, and a great mini-indulgence for a mid-week pick me up.
Those cod cheeks? They’re in the offer too. There’s no skimping on either the cod or the chorizo – see below, and don’t forget to wipe around the bowl.
